The Blessing of Family
If we are made in the image of God, then one of those attributes is we are relational. Created for fellowship, not just with God, but others as well. And the most important of those is your family. Good, bad or indifferent, your family is your family and they too have been made in His image. The family dynamic changes as you grow older too, which is also a great part of life. You go from being a son or daughter to having your own son or daughter. And with this change your parents become grandparents and so on. It really is a great blessing, but since almost the beginning
of time, families have been broken. In fact, the first murder in history was a brother murdering his own brother over jealousy. Listen, your family will never be perfect, but it can be a better version of what it is today. In the Mastery 40 Program I go into more detail about my own struggle with family. Abandonment, abuse and so much more are never a good thing, but they can be overcome and you can start a new trend in your family.
I have already established God as your top priority, so knowing this is true for all of us. If you are a child then your parents are your top priority or your guardian. If you are married then your spouse is your top priority. As your family grows so does the order of relational significance. For example: Your spouse, then your children, then your parents, then your siblings, then your grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins and then your friends that are like family. But then you have to factor in other elements, are some of these relationships broken? Are they toxic? How do you navigate these areas?
Earthly family is complex, but it is also one of the greatest gifts we will ever receive. Even harder is the fact that in most cases you don't choose your family, you are born into them. And for some, they didn't win the family lotto, but you have to find the reason even in the bad. Now, you do get to choose your spouse. Well, in most cultures at least. So, at the very least, you do have an opportunity to chart a new course in your family dynamic.
However, in order to master life you need to master your family life. The journey has to begin somewhere, so why not on the Mastery 40 path?
