After spending the day on the mountain some of the dates have become harder to remember, but it seems like I waited for an eternity to have my imaging appointment scheduled. To be fair it probably was a combination of taking a while, plus my anxiousness to get the results. Then before I knew it, I was doing a 24-hour prep to get ready for the imaging. Sadly the prep was almost as bad as preparing for the endoscopy/colonoscopy. The nurse was great, although she did play me like a fiddle. She gives me two bottles of the nasty stuff to drink. I ask why doesn't it come in more flavors than just chalky, nasty vanilla. She responded, "With we've tried them all and they are all nasty, but if you will drink one full bottle and half the other you can go sit with your brother for an hour to let it start moving through your system." I was excited, she spared me at least half of one bottle.
True to her word, she let me go and took the bottles with her. After an hour passed, she came to get the IV started. She then went to the fridge removed my remaining half bottle and told me to finish it up. All I could say was, "Well played, ma'am." She connected the IV and we proceeded to the imaging room. I won't bore you with all the details, but within a matter of minutes I was done. My brothers, Andy and Sam took me to lunch and we enjoyed some much needed laughter. A few days later I received a phone call with the results, I will never forget this part of the call. "Great news, it's just one mass and it hasn't spread!" I was super excited. I walked out of my office, laid a big ole high-five down on my boss. We celebrated, I walked out into the hallway and cried out to God with amazing joy. Then I realized I didn't ask what the next steps would be. I knew there would be surgery (Colon Resection), removal of the mass and my appendix, but I wasn't sure if I would need chemo or radiation, etc. All I knew was the celebration was about to begin! That celebration as it turns out, would be short-lived. (Fake News Alert)
